| These are the famous Hematite pseudomorphs after Magnetite from Argentina that I believe were first introduced in 2004 in Tucson at the Executive Inn. Like Cavansite prices at their introduction, prices have come down, which does not usually happen. These are about 50% or better off the prices in 2004 directly to dealers in Tucson. The Hematite pseudomorphed crystals still have an extraordinary form with their skeletal octahedral and elongated octahedral crystal shape. Mindat.org reports that this is actually a National Park and collecting is strictly prohibited in this location which produced these pseudomorphs of volcanic fumarole origin. There seems to still be a good supply of specimens on the market but if this ends, prices may quickly recover. March 2009 |
