2     12atceir    ((DIOPTASE on QUARTZ)),  $35 MINIMUM  BID, Kandesei, Kaokoveld Plateau, Kunene, Namibia, 10 x 5.5 x 5 cm, Cabinet,  Here is a cabinet sized specimen with gemmy emerald green Diptase from Kaokoveld.  It has a couple chipped crystals but overall the green Dioptase is undamaged.  Better and more gemmy in person.

6  2017 9ldocnss  ((FLUORITE with CELESTINE)),  $10 MINIMUM BID, White Rock Quarry, Clay Center, Ottawa County, Ohio,  3.5 x 3 x 2.5 cm,  Miniature,   Here is a lustrous cubic rootbeer brown colored Fluorite with a Celestine crystal.  Fluorite is nearly undamaged with sharp edges.  Only a couple of very small corner cleaves on lower secondary corners.

10   5hhshar  ((MIXITE)),  $35 MINIMUM BID, Northern Spy Mine, Tintic District, Juab County, Utah,  14 x 9 x 4.5 cm,  Cabinet,  Here is a large cabinet sized specimen of a micro crystal.  Mixite is an uncommon robin egg blue crystal made up of small sphericules of acicular crystals. They look like small fuzzy spheres.  A small lot of these were collected by a local field collectors 15 to 20 years ago and purchased by me at that time.  I run into a specimen or two in my miscellaneous stock but I do not think many if any are left.   The lower left of this larger than normal specimen has many of the fuzzy spheres of Mixite.

14     12atarrs  ((GYPSUM variety SELENITE)),  $25 MINIMUM BID, Whyalla, South Australia, Australia,  21 x 14 x 11 cm,  Large Cabinet,  Here is a large undamaged Selenite from Australia.  The specimen is covered with flower like rosettes of Selenite crystals. Not as fragile as it looks.

Academy of Science, $20 MINIMUM BID, Dixon's Quarry, Delaware,  16 x 6 x 3 cm, Large Cabinet,  Here is a white Oligoclase from Delaware,  ex Philadelphia Academy of Natural Science with label #6376, an early number.  Also came to the Academy from the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia.  Although just a feldspar, still a neat and very historic piece.

42    7atarnr  ((SUNSTONE)),  $10 MINIMUM BID, Kong Mines, Hartz Range, Northern Territory, Australia, Jackson County, South Dakota,  1 to 2.5 cm, 55 Thumbnails,  30 in one bag that may have some fire but if so, it is hard to see.  25 in another bag that definitely have fire.  Internal of fire almost light colored glitter when the specimen is at just the right angle to the light.  The lesser bag was hard to see but in a pile many still had fire present.  The others are much easier to orient to show the fire.

52    12ettgr  ((CHALCOPYRITE)),  $10 MINIMUM BID, Piedras Verde, Chihuahua, Mexico,  10 x 6 x 5.5 cm,  Cabinet,  The color in the photo looks exactly like Covellite but in person it is slightly more green in the blue coloration.  The Chalcopyrite is treated to produce this iridescent coloration.  Sometimes mislabeled and sold as Bornite.  Chalcopyrite from the Sweetwater Mine sometimes has this iridescent color naturally and sometimes is also treated.

58     6ari  ((KIMZEYITE, ANATASE, MAGNETITE)), $15 MINIMUM BID, Perovskite Hill, Magnet Cove, Arkansas,  24 x 22 x 12 MM, Thumbnail,  Kimzeyite is a rare Zirconium Garnet.  This is typical size and are the rounded crystals.  Magnetite are the large octahedral crystals.  Anatase are the light brown to tan smaller octahedral crystals.   These are from the lifetime accumulation of Clyde Hardin a well known digger and trader from Arkansas.

61    12dhjdis   ((BOTRYOIDAL FLUORITE, MONTMORILLONITE)),  $10 MINIMUM  BID, Lost Sheep Mine, Purple Pit, Spor Mountain, Juab County, Utah, 11 x 8.5 x 6 cm, Cabinet,  These were collected this year from the Lost Sheep Mine.  The botryoidal Fluorite is dark purple almost black.  It is on a contrasting white to pinkish soft matrix, probably Montmorillonite.  No photos on mindat.  One photo on the Fluorite on mindat say Thomas Range which is probably mislabeled or perhaps found when a collector left a specimen at Topaz mountain? 

 

 

   
   

 62  12dhjdis   ((BOTRYOIDAL FLUORITE, MONTMORILLONITE)),  $10 MINIMUM  BID, Lost Sheep Mine, Purple Pit, Spor Mountain, Juab County, Utah, 9 x 5.5 x 3 cm, Cabinet,  These were collected this year from the Lost Sheep Mine.  The botryoidal Fluorite is multicolored with dark purple almost black and a lighter greenish purple.  This is one of the more attractive specimens.  It is on a contrasting white to pinkish soft matrix, probably Montmorillonite.  No photos on mindat.  One photo on the Fluorite on mindat say Thomas Range which is probably mislabeled or perhaps found when a collector left a specimen at Topaz mountain?

64   10hljdtr  ((GUILLEMINITE, MALACHITE)), TYPE LOCALITY, RADIOACTIVE, $25 MINIMUM BID, Musonoi Open Pit, Shaba Province, Zaire,  3.5 x 2 x 2 cm, Miniature,  Label from Pequa Rare Minerals has the information.  The yellow is the rare mineral Guilleminite and was collected in the 1950's.  It has UO2 and SeO3 in the chemical composition. This is from the type locality and was bought by a collector from Pequa Rare Minerals, now I believe retired.

Description:Cymatolite is a RARE pseudomorph of spodumene by a mixture of muscovite and albite. It is ususally somewhat lamellar to parallel fibrous. This is a lamellar section after a very large spodumene crystal. THIS IS OLD CLASSIC MATERIAL , MOSTLY FROM THE 1800S! IT WAS STUDIED INTENSIVELY IN THE EARLY DAYS OF MINERALOGY. This piece appears to be composed mainly of lustrous, creamy-brown albite with minor muscovite. This lithium-rich granite pegmatite is well-known for its manganese phosphates and cymatolite. Ex Dennis Mullane Collection and comes with a faded label from the Rocky Moore Collection of Los Angeles, dated January, 1942. The quarry and mine have been inactive since 1944. It is quite hefty for its size at 545 grams or nearly a pound.

 

Weloganite is an ultra rare, strontium, sodium, zirconium carbonate and this showy and excellent specimen is from the famous Type Locality - the now-closed Francon Quarry in Montreal, Quebec. An 8 mm, doubly terminated, tapered and layered, off-white crystal is aesthetically set on the calcite crystal covered sculptural limestone matrix. A fine and showy example, this extremely rare species is known at its best from a very few pockets at this cement quarry, which has incredibly strange chemistry and has produced a number of such rarities IN THE PAST. Not available now, except from advanced recycled collections. Ex Ernie and Vera Schlichter Collection. Note that the crystal is yellow inside but is covered by a microthin layer of other rare species.
