Okandawasi, Kaokoveld, Namibia
4.5 x 4 x 2.5 cm

A solid crust of Shattuckite, a rare copper silicate, with minor green Malachite on the outside.  Inside a vug of velvety spheres of acicular crystals of Shattuckite.  These velvety spherical acicular cyystals seem to have a whitish thin coating of something.  I do not know is this is removable or another rare mineral.   You can see it in the photos.  It does detract  from the beauty of the velvety dark blue Shattuckite.  I just saw some of the white material on another specimens Malachite and it looks like it is just fine dust.  When I get a chance I will try just blowing it off with compressed air.  I blew on it a little and the white did not come off.  I do not know what it is.  Most have a little.  This one has more and so the price is adjusted much lower.

Shattuckite, which is rarely crystallized, is found as acicular spherical radiating sprays of crystals.  A one time find in the 1980's, a pocket of super rare Shattuckite pseudomorphs after Cuprite was found.  This is a fully formed sharp crystal of from this rare find.  Bottom has a couple of white attachment areas and also some remnant whitish glue; elmers? I did not soak to see if water soluble.  Was also hot glued which I removed.

NOTE: photos on right have been auto fixed by photoshop.  The blue is too dark and intense but the photos are sharper that the originals on the left which are close to the actual shade of blue.
